ZAP REFRESH: Revamping Your Beauty Routine for Summer

Summer is one of my favorite seasons for many reasons including the warmer weather, sunshine and plenty of opportunities to dine alfresco and wear sundresses. However, what you wear on a daily basis shouldn’t be the only part of your routine that you’re switching up. As the weather shifts to hot and humid, it’s imperative to think about what changes your beauty routine needs, too.

With the temperatures rising, moisturizer should be your best friend. Body lotion typically does a great job of this but in the summer, it can feel rather heavy on the skin. Instead, opt for Advanced Clinicals’ Rosehip Body Oil. In addition to giving your skin a restorative glow you didn’t know you needed, Vitamin C brightens sun damage and leaves skin looking radiant. Face feeling particularly dry? The Coconut Visible Repair Oil is another great pick. It repairs dry skin and harsh creases to instead create a soft touch. Plus, who doesn’t want to smell like a tropical vacation?!

In addition to moisturizing your face and body, taking some you time and reviving your skin is crucial too. Monthly facials are recommended by many dermatologists as they improve blood circulation and relax you overall. As the seasons change, your skin is at its most vulnerable, which is why it’s important to focus on really taking care of your skin. A facial can do this with professional extraction, deep cleansing, and more. Gilt City Chicago has a great deal right now for three customized facials for just $145, down from the usual $285, at Oxygen Spa Studio located in the West Loop. Each facial will address your unique skin concerns and is sure to leave you glowing!

The summer heat and sun can often leave skin feeling dull or dry. DIY an exfoliant to slough off dead skin at home with affordable ingredients from Fresh Thyme Farmer’s Market. One of my favorites is super   simple and combines olive oil, white sugar, and honey. Olive oil contains natural antioxidant properties to protect skin from damage while also moisturizing, making this all over body scrub a great one. Start with 3 tablespoons of olive oil, add 2 tablespoons of honey, and ½ cup of white sugar in a bowl. Stir until everything is adequately mixed. If you’d like to add a special touch to your new exfoliant, mix in a few drops of Fresh Thyme essential oils like lemon or grapefruit, which are perfect scents for summer.
