CITY FOR ALL SEASONS

Chicago is a city for all seasons. Whether soaking in the holiday spirit on Michigan Avenue at Christmas time or walking through Lincoln Park beneath a tunnel of red and orange trees in the fall, there’s something for everyone – any time of year! But, as any Windy City resident will attest, there’s no time like summertime in Chicago. After months of cabin fever, the city comes alive when the days get longer and sun shines brighter longer each day.

Although this is my third summer in Chicago, I feel as though I’ve barely scratched the surface of summertime “must-dos” here and am determined to cross items of my dog day bucket list. Sure, some of these activities might be stereotypical tourist attractions – making it even more inexcusable that I haven’t taken advantage of them already!

Fireworks at Navy Pier – Every week, fireworks are set off from Chicago’s Navy Pier over the sparkling lake. I’ve seen them from afar, but never while at Navy Pier. No idea why I haven’t taken advantage of this – who doesn’t love fireworks in the summer?!

Sox Game – I’ve made it to Wrigley Field for a number of Cubs games, but never south to U.S. Cellular Field to support the White Sox. Apparently the field is beautiful and the area up-and-coming, so I need to head the opposite direction of Wrigley on the CTA Red Line and check it out!

Movies in the Parks – The Chicago Park District has “Movies in the Parks” events throughout the summer, screening movies at neighborhood parks throughout the city all summer. What better way to watch a classic film than on a warm summer night in a beautiful park?

Street Festivals – Apple’s slogan is “there’s an app for that.” It seems as though in Chicago, “there’s a summer festival for that!” From music to art, food to fashion, there are multiple festivals each weekend – and I need to make it to more than just the big ones!

Boat Tour – Almost everyone visiting the city says that its skyscrapers and architectural marvels are better seen from a boat (as opposed to tour bus) on the Chicago River. I love boats and would love to see the buildings I admire every day in a different light; so, this seems like the best of both worlds!

Wish my luck on my summertime bucket list – time flies so I need to get started!
