ZAP Wanderlust: Serbia

“Out of isolation, the city of Belgrade has become a hip and happening urban travel destination,” reads the DuJour Magazine spring 2018 issue. Characterized by the conflict of the 1990’s, few travelers were familiar with the country; specifically, that it afforded tourists the opportunity to experience its fascinating culinary scene, history, culture and design district.

Zapwater Communications began working with the National Tourism Organization of Serbia in October 2016 leading its first U.S. group press trip. Since then, the team has garnered extensive coverage on the country which previously was focused on its history.

The DuJour six-page spread was a result of the September 2017 press trip which showcased Belgrade as a growing city that is considered Europe’s best-kept secret, for now. Adding to media coverage on the country, Zapwater was able to change the dialogue and perception of Serbia. Looking forward to the future, luxury hotel groups like the Viceroy and St. Regis have announced that they will open properties in the country. Furthermore, the annual trend report by the National Tourism Organization of Serbia estimated the total number of tourists in 2016 exceeded 2.7 million, a 10 percent increase compared to 2015.

Before the crowds move in, be sure to add Serbia to your bucket list!
