2014 Trend Prediction #8: The Simple Life

Say “so long” to the days of wild and crazy prints and patterns. In terms of fashion, 2014 will have a huge focus on crisp, clean neutrals with strong shapes and silhouettes. It’s time to put your Missoni zig zags and Burberry plaids in storage for a bit and embrace simplicity. In 2014, less is more! I’m a minimalist at heart (in terms of fashion, and only in terms of fashion), so I’m looking forward to a year of walking into stores filled with whites, creams, blushes, camels, grays, navy blues and blacks. It’s not to say that color won’t continue to have a huge presence in the world of fashion. The spring 2014 runways were still packed with bold, bright looks, and the best way to accessorize a neutral outfit is with a pop of color.

Some additional trends for 2014 include boxy jackets, wide leg trousers, midi skirts, fringe (YES!) and knife pleats, so what better way to ease into these statement looks with a neutral color palette.

Things to love about neutral basics… 1) Easy to mix and match 2) Hard not to look chic and clean 3) Can be dressed up or down with accessories 4) Allows for bolder makeup 5) Can play up fabrics and textures without going overboard 6) Gives you the chance to experiment with shape without feeling costume-y

Take a cue from the Swiss this 2014 and go neutral! Wishing you all a happy, healthy Neu(tral) Year!
