Chicago Public Relations Boutique to Represent Interests of 100 Agricultural Associations
CHICAGO, IL (June 18, 2007) - After an extensive search and RFP process that included predominantly Washington, DC-based public relations agencies, The Specialty Crop Farm Bill Alliance has awarded its media relations and public affairs work to Chicago-based Zapwater Communications, Inc.
In May of 2005, several specialty crop industry leaders united to form the “Specialty Crop Farm Bill Alliance” (SCFBA). The group’s goal has been to develop a series of farm bill policy recommendations to advocate for adoption and ensure their inclusion in the 2007 Farm Bill. The Specialty Crop Farm Bill Alliance is co-chaired by Florida Fruit and Vegetable Association, National Potato Council, and Western Growers.
The coalition has retained Zapwater to develop and implement a communication plan to support its lobbying efforts and to respond promptly with consistent messages to the farm bill debate as it intensifies. Zapwater will also coordinate grassroots activities on behalf of the alliances’ almost 100 agricultural organizations from across the country.

Kiran Advani Joins Zapwater As Group Director
CHICAGO, IL (January 15, 2007) - Kiran Advani joins Zapwater Communications as Group Director. Advani manages client relations for the agency, develops new business opportunities as well as handles media relations for multiple clients in a variety of practices from the arts, corporate, hospitality and fashion.
Advani joins Zapwater with close to a decade of experience developing and executing publicity programs for some of Chicago’s most recognizable businesses. Most recently and for the last three years, Advani has been servicing several fashion and luxury lifestyle clients throughout the nation with her own independent media relations and specialty marketing practice. Her roster has included Lana Unlimited Co., “Frumpy to Foxy In Fifteen Minutes Flat,” Lumiere Candles, Cheena Chandra Jewelry, and K.Amato Designs, to name a few.
Advani also brings knowledge of the arts world to Zapwater. She managed the public relations and special events efforts for the Terra Museum of American Art in Chicago from 2001 to 2004. In addition to creating an integrated marketing communications plan for the nonprofit museum, she also assisted in the development of the membership and volunteer programs.
Advani began her boutique agency experience in 1999 at Margie Korshak, Inc. initially handling advertising trade for theatre clients and quickly moved onto the public relations side working on restaurant and hospitality accounts. Prior to that, Advani was employed at UR Chicago where she was involved in launching nightlife events for the popular culture magazine.
Advani received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communications with a major in Public Relations and a concentration in Marketing Management from Drake University.

CHICAGO, IL (January 8, 2007) - Zapwater Communications Inc., one of Chicago’s fastest growing public relations agencies announces the addition of Ryan McLaughlin as Vice President/Group Director, Public Affairs. McLaughlin joins Zapwater with an expertise in strategic planning, crisis communications and media relations after serving as the campaign manager for one of the most high-profile Congressional campaigns in the 2006 election cycle.
McLaughlin was the architect behind Peter Roskam’s dramatic victory to Congress in Illinois’ 6th Congressional District. The $14 million campaign earned national and international attention, garnering significant post-election political commentary in Real Clear Politics, The Daily Herald and The Chicago Tribune.
According to Real Clear Politics, one of the top political blogs in the country, Roskam’s victory was considered “… an anomaly…” The Daily Herald stated, “In retrospect, it’s kind of amazing that he [Roskam] won, given the Democratic tide nationally and in the suburbs. A testament to the campaign Roskam ran.”
In the last decade, McLaughlin has diverse political and corporate background revolving around local, state and federal politics. He has worked for two Members of Congress on Capitol Hill, ran a successful political and corporate consulting business and managed numerous campaigns throughout Illinois. He also held senior positions in Jim Ryan’s 2002 Illinois Gubernatorial Campaign and with the Illinois Republican State Senate Campaign Committee.
